We believe that exploring biomaterials in a playful way is important because using approachable methods, such as tinkering and hands-on activities, can introduce people of all ages to new ideas and connect them to nature. Fun and simple toy growing kits can introduce sustainable design conversation into play.
The GIY Bio Buddies Kits include a variety of activities using and growing two biomaterials:
​mycelium and kombucha leather

🍄 ​Mycelium 🍄 

Explore activities with the biomaterial mycelium - the root-like structure of fungus. Activities involve packing vacuum-formed and reused molds with various materials/substrates to grow mycelium. 

​Scoby
Explore activities with the biomaterial kombucha leather - dried cellulose sheet grown from a SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). Activities involve growing and customizing the biomaterial and using it in a variety of crafts.
